Esther Tresser-Polanco, LMHC
I’ve been a therapist for over 20 years. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in New York who has had a private practice on Staten Island since 2007. I ensure that you find therapy to be supportive, safe, and free of worries of judgement. Counseling is a collaborative process, and my warm, supportive, and interactive style will help to build trust and comfort so that we can explore the concerns bringing you to therapy. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I draw from various therapeutic techniques in order to tailor sessions to you and your individual needs.
Think of therapy as a road trip. You drive the car, and I’ll help you read the map, offering support and encouragement along the way.
While I see people for many different concerns, my practice focuses on infertility counseling, couples counseling, and women’s issues. Therapy can help you to develop healthy coping skills, gain clarity, make decisions, decrease sadness and worry, and increase your inner strength, your resilience. The initial goal is always the same; I strive to offer you an emotionally comfortable, validating place where you will be heard, supported, and understood.
Over the last two decades, I’ve worked in various settings including outpatient mental health, rehabilitation programs, schools, group practice, and private practice. For many years, I served as the assistant regional supervisor of a counseling program on Staten Island. I have conducted trainings for mental health professionals, and presented workshops for adults and children.
I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Pace University, graduating summa cum laude, a Master of Arts degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and completed additional graduate work in Education and Special Education at Touro College. I have received and continue to receive post-graduate training in infertility, regularly attend infertility counseling conferences, and participate in monthly, educational, infertility counseling teleconference calls.
